Placement Exams

Which classes will you take in Math and English? For freshmen, placement into classes is primarily based on your ACT and SAT scores. If you are not happy with where these scores place you, you can challenge your placement by taking a UNM Compass Placement test to gain entry to a higher level class.

If your SAT and ACT scores are below a certain level, you may be required to take an Introductory Studies Course.

For transfer students, your placement may be based on college courses that you are transferring.

Placement is also for anyone taking certain foreign language classes. If you are taking a language class in Spanish, French or German, you are required to take a language evaluation.
