Who We Are

The New Student Orientation Program is a unit within the Dean of Students Office.  Our mission is to assist all incoming undergraduates with the transition to the University of New Mexico Main Campus.  As a program housed within the Division of Student Affairs, New Student Orientation strives to provide comprehensive, meaningful experiences that prepares students for life inside the classroom and beyond. Our staff consists of full-time professional staff members and New Student Orientation Leaders.  Each of our programs are tailored to the needs of the specific populations that we serve.  We provide orientation programs for beginning traditional freshmen, non-traditional and transfer students, returning and branch campus students, and family members of incoming students.

We partner with many other departments, programs, and organizations throughout campus to provide a successful transition experience into the university.  We receive a tremendous amount of additional assistance from the Dean of Students Office, Student Activities Center, Residence Life and Student Housing, Academic Advisement Units, and many other departments on campus.

By the Numbers

In the summer of 2012, the New Student Orientation Program provided orientation to 5,408 incoming undergraduate students and 1,586 family members through a combined total of 43 individual orientation programs.  We are currently gearing up for another great year of helping new students and family members join the UNM community!  Please revisit this site regularly for updates on upcoming programs and accomplishments!
